Carta de Erika Julieth Bayona - Madrina:Valerie Ann Tacier

Valerie Ann Tacier

Dear godmother:

I would like to send you my best wishes of prosperity and well being. I would like to tell you that at the beginning of this school year, I failed a couple of subjects but I put a lot of effort pass all my subjects and I finished the year successfully.

Both my family and I are fine and enjoying Christmas. My mother works at a comunitary restaurant and my father doing various works.

In Colombia, Christmas is very beautiful, here in Ibagué there are Christmas dolls and Christmas lights all over the city, especially downtown. On December 7th and 8th we celebrate the “candle day” which is the day of the Virgin Mary. The streets look beautiful and in each house, people light candle lamps and this day initiates the Christmas season.

It is true that the economic situation in my country is really poor because there is a lot of unemployment and the country has been affected by the winter season that has left a lot of victims without shelter and there have been many destroyed crops, which has affected the farmers.

Let me continue telling you about my experience at school. My friends are always happy and we always have a lot of fun on break. We always look at the bright side of things because school years are the best years one can have.

On December 24th we celebrate the nativity, during nine days, families celebrate Christmas at home in front of the nativity scene that they build and they sing Christmas carols.

During this time it has been raining a lot because as I said before, the winter has affected the world a lot.

I hope that you had a great time and that you were successful this year. I also hope that next year all your wishes come true. I would like to thank you for your support on my studies because without your help and the YMCA’s, I would have never been able to continue studying.

I would like to say good bye now and wish you a merry Christmas and a prosper New Year.

Yours truly,

Erika Julieth Bayona
